The whole world knows about the architectural miracle called Taj Mahal. The emperor Shah Jahan built it to immortalise his favourite wife Mumtaz Mahal, whom he loved deeply. But several centuries before him, Tamerlane the Great constructed Bibi-Khanum mosque in commemoration of his favourite and beloved wife. In the 15th century it was one of the largest and most magnificent mosques in the Islamic world. Nowadays, Bibi-Khanum mosque it is one of the most important monuments of Samarkand.
