Surprisingly, before Titanic catastrophe, icebergs weren't considered a serious threat to ships.
But in April 1912 everything changed. Soon after the collision, International Ice Patrol was formed. Its goal is to collect data on currents, ice-flow, ocean temperatures, salinity levels etc. The organization is still active nowadays and is operated by United States Coast guard.
